History

Established in 2002 as Biograde Limited, we have expanded rapidly to become Cardia Bioplastics, a global business with head quarters and Global Applications Development Centre in Melbourne, Australia.

Our Product Development Centre and manufacturing plant is in Nanjing, China.

We also have offices in Europe and the Americas, and a network of leading distributors across Australia, the Americas, Europe and Asia. Our key people are skilled plastics industry leaders widely recognised for their sustainable resins expertise.

Growth for our business is fuelled by the global trend towards sustainable packaging. We hold a strong patent portfolio and a track record for creating innovative products based on our proprietary technology.

As Biograde, we were the exclusive supplier of biodegradable packaging to the 2008 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games, were awarded the Australian Chamber of Commerce “Australia-China Business Excellence Award” in 2008, and won the 2009 “Clean Equity Monaco Conference Award” for Excellence in the field of Environmental Technology Commercialisation.

Future

Since their inception, plastics have been made from finite resources, chiefly oil. The growth of the market for sustainable resins derived from renewable resources is driven by society’s recognition that change is required, because:
  • Oil is a finite resource – some say we are now facing the “peak in oil supply”
  • Packaging and disposable products are short term use items – they create waste disposal and litter issues
